Project Summary
The University of Rhode Island’s Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center opened in 2013 and was designed to promote the health & wellbeing of students in a safe, high-tech, and inviting environment. This $11-million, 2-story renovation project transformed the 1969 award winning dining hall into a state-of-the-art 33,000-square-foot wellness facility. This modernist structure highlights the building’s original craftsmanship by retaining most of the original structure with 8,000-square-feet of new construction. Copper Red NeaCera rainscreens were chosen to adorn the new construction and infill areas to compliment the structure’s brick masonry and restored original terra-cotta walls. This building is the 8th of 11 buildings on the University of Rhode Island campus to receive LEED Gold Certification helping the campus to be named a Green Ribbon School by the United State Department of Education. This project also earned Rhode Island Monthly’s 2015 Gold Award in Commercial Renovation/New Construction.
